• first genre of writing - opinion writing (writing assessment in February)
• second genre of writing- informational writing (writing assessment in April)
• third genre of writing- narrative writing (writing assessment in May)

• subject (nouns) (who/what the sentence is about) and predicate (verbs) (what the subject is doing)
• proper/common nouns
• verb tense (past, present, future)
• subject/verb agreement
• using articles and demonstratives (a, an, the, this, that, these, those)
• plural nouns (-s, -es, -ies)
• pronouns (personal, possessive, and indefinite)
• adjectives-using describing words
• using commas in a date and in a series
• prepositions (in, around, above, below, etc.)
• different types of senteces: declarative (statement), interrogative (question), imperative (command), and exclamatory (strong feeling)
• conjuctions (and, but, or, so, etc.)
• simple/compound sentences
• possessive nouns (Jeff"s shirt)
